With recent experience in France under his belt and the support of his sponsors, Olivier Devin finished in the top 10 at the 2022 automobile race across Les Mamelles in Guadeloupe and is ready to face the future.
Trial races, tune-ups to the chassis, discussions with renowned race car and rally drivers: the Covid pandemic, with all races in the Antilles on standby, ultimately benefitted Olivier Devin. A trip to France, where his father Claude originally turned him on to automobile racing, served as good preparation before competitions started up on the island again. “When everything was at a standstill, my car was actually in France for close to three years, and I was, in a sense, ‘exported’ for the first time. In France, among other things, I participated in the Rally Pays de Saint-Affricain in the department of Aveyron. This first adventure in France was a great experience, with my faithful sponsor CHAZEL Technologie Course, professionals in the field for close to 35 years.”
Ready to go, Olivier and his car, freshly serviced by CHAZEL Technologie Course, once again crossed the Atlantic to be on the starting line for the race at Les Mamelles on October 1 & 2, 2022, and finished in the top 10 out of 27 participants, with an ovation from the big crowd gathered for the occasion. “I would like to thank all of my sponsors, without whom none of this would be possible,” says the driver. The event was a big success, and a reflection of the renewed fervor for the sport in Guadeloupe, where this former semi-pro tennis player, who now has over 15 years of experience in automobile racing, got his first taste of the sport in 2006 as co-pilot for Philippe Ninou.
“Today, I have a truly competitive car, a real “factory” race car, but having started with lesser cars to climb the ranks, I always tried not to skip any big steps,” concludes Olivier Devin for now. But he is already psychologically in the starting blocks, ready for the 2022 edition of the Rally Sud Basse-Terre.
