The longest gondola lift in the world will soon be installed in Dominica. With a cable over four miles long, it will allow access to another record-holder on the island, Boiling Lake, the second largest lake with boiling water in the world.
Created for the most adventurous, the equally amazing and challenging path to and from Boiling Lake, a lake with boiling water in Dominica, requires at least seven hours of hiking. The path cuts through forests and valleys, which in less than two years can be covered in the air… and in just 20 minutes.
Thanks to the world’s longest continuously moving cable running at a constant speed, Austrian manufacturer Doppelmayr Group will comfortably ensure a lift to this immense source of hot water. A revolutionary project, as well as an economic and cultural opportunity for the island of high peaks, offers employment and tourism development for the region. Plans include a restaurant as well as an observation platform at the upper station.
Located 10 kilometers from the capital, Boiling Lake in Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a flooded fumarole with water hotter than 180°F. As wide as it is deep (approximately 200 feet) it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
