The first edition of the World Tech Kafé took place on September 16, 2022 in Fort-de-France. Announced as “the entrepreneurial and tech event of the year,” it centered on the theme: Destination Business.
The Grand Carbet in the heart of the Aimé Césaire Cultural Park served as the location for the first World Tech Kafé. Professionals from information science to innovation, among others, including some with international credentials, met to discuss 10 themes dealing with the technologies of today and tomorrow. Topics ranged from employment, medicine, education, and women to the environment, cooperation, tourism, and food. The events partners were involved in the sessions, such as BNP Paribas as a leader in the financing of innovation, as they are “interested in supporting promising projects,” confirm the organizers.
Approximately 30 startups from the island were invited. The general public could exchange ideas with the experts during ‘open-mike’ sessions: information, innovation, and competition were among the concepts resolutely turned toward the future: How will we be working in Martinique? What environmental impact will we have on the life of those who follow us? Will people in Martinique enjoy good health? What will education look like? “The nature of the actions we take and the decisions we make today are those that will change the landscape of tomorrow,” points out Marlène Jougon, president of French Tech Martinique. “The 60 speakers reached the audience, getting them to reflect and share their ideas about the essentials of tomorrow, based on a common, universal concept: a digital world,” she explains. French Tech is a national movement of startups supported locally by the association, Martinique Digitale. The label French Tech Martinique hopes to make technology a tool for the socio-economic development and impact of the island.
