On July 8, 2023, the musical group SOFT celebrated their 20th anniversary at the Palais des Sports in Gosier in Guadeloupe. A list of special guests made this a truly exceptional occasion.
More than 4,500 fans enjoyed a four-hour show, with extraordinary special guests and numerous surprises… the anniversary concert celebrating 20 years of music by the group SOFT was a night that will be long remembered.
The tone for the evening met the expectations of a very excited crowd when Fred Deshayes (guitar-vocals), Maxence Deshayes (vocals), Joël Larochelle (bass), Philip Sadikalay (saxophone), and Julie Aristide (violin) sang “Kadans a péyi la,” the hit song from their eponymous first album, which came out in 2005.
The evening continued with a series of surprises, including the presence of a large musical family sharing in the excitement and manifestly happy to be reunited to celebrate such a remarkable occasion.
It was great to see other musicians on the stage such as SOFT’s longtime friends K’KOUSTIK, plus Erick Cosaque, the true source of their inspiration, Fanswa Ladrezeau, Jean-Michel Lesdel, Méthi’S, Orlane, Victor’O, and even comedian Laurence Joseph… not to mention the dancers of Akadémiduka whose infectious energy could be felt all the way to the rafters.
To finish on a high note, singer Admiral T was also part of the action, before a sparkling finale with E.sy Kennenga and all of the participating musicians.
What else can one say after such an infusion of joy, other than we can’t wait for SOFT’s next album, scheduled to be released in December.
SOFT was born from the idea of presenting a new kind of musical experience, drawing from the roots of Guadeloupe’s musical history and its traditional rhythms, but enriched by modern Creole jazz, resolutely Caribbean. Their acoustic style is decisive according to the quartet, because it is the softness of their melodies that underlines the finesse of the lyrics. But the words, far from being innocent, tackle subjects that are serious, profound, and meaningful.
