“La Toile des Palmistes” Film Festival was held from November 5 to 8 in Cayenne, Guiana. This was the 4th edition organized by the Guiana – Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimedia association (G-CAM) in partnership with the Eldorado movie theater.
OUTDOORS ~ “La Toile des Palmistes” took place outdoors, in the heart of Place des Palmistes in Cayenne, November 5 – 8 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The film festival complied with sanitary regulations and schedules were adapted to the curfew set up in Guiana. The event, organized by the G-CAM association (Guyane Cinéma Audiovisuel et Multimédia), generally occurs every two years, in partnership with the Eldorado theater showing the feature films.
FOCUS ON BRAZIL ~ The goal is to offer a friendly event with short fictional films, documentaries and video-clips. The audience discovered the most striking productions made over the past two years by the new generation of directors from Guiana and elsewhere. The focus this year was on Brazil, “a nation currently considering Culture as a symbol of Resistance”, according to the organizers. For the occasion, professional guests came to interact with the public. In addition, a short film competition was open to amateurs on the theme “Et si demain” (“What if tomorrow”). As soon as the invitation was made, the organizers set the tone: “We look forward to seeing you joyful, donning masks from November 5 to 8! It is good to collectively experience Cinema! A volcano which was just sleeping during these long gloomy months.”
